Interpret Bing crawl statistics
Use crawl activity and error trends to find technical questions worth checking on your site.
Crawl statistics describe how Bingbot interacts with a site. They are useful for detecting changes in access or server responses, but more crawling does not automatically mean better rankings. Compare the pattern with known releases and the size or structure of the site.
Work through it, step by step.
Inspect the returned dates and separate crawl-event counts from snapshot measures. Do not sum a daily indexed-page snapshot as though it counted new pages.
Look for sustained changes in errors, blocks or response groups. Compare their timing with deployment, hosting and robots configuration changes.
Test representative affected URLs using your site and server tools. Confirm the actual response and intended policy before changing access controls.
Make it concrete.
A release is followed by a rise in server-error crawl responses. Checking the affected route and application logs provides more direct evidence than submitting the sitemap repeatedly.
What to keep in mind.
A crawler’s report may lag behind a fix. A single successful browser load also does not prove that every affected route or crawler request is now healthy.
