Free percentage-change calculator for marketing reports
Calculate relative and absolute movement from a non-negative baseline and handle a zero baseline honestly.
Try your own numbers.
The starting values are illustrative. Replace them with compatible numbers from your report.
Percentage change compares the current value with an earlier baseline. It is useful for counts or compatible amounts, but its meaning depends on comparable periods and definitions. A large percentage on a tiny baseline can distract from a more important absolute movement.
Work through it, step by step.
Enter previous and current values with the same units and scope. Use complete comparable periods rather than mixing a partial day with a full day.
Read relative change beside the absolute difference. When the previous value is zero, the relative calculation is undefined and the new count should be described directly.
For rate changes, distinguish percentage points from relative percent. Moving from 2% to 3% is one percentage point and a 50% relative increase.
Make it concrete.
A move from 800 clicks to 1,000 is an increase of 200 clicks and 25%. A move from 2 to 4 is 100%, but only two additional clicks.
What to keep in mind.
The calculation does not adjust for seasonality, traffic mix or measurement changes. It describes the inputs without explaining their cause.
Your next useful step.
Use the date-range guide to choose a fair comparison and the reporting-quality checklist before turning the change into a recommendation.
Working with this in Liftaven
Calculations run locally in your browser. These tools do not connect accounts or send your inputs to Liftaven. Use numbers from the same reporting period and keep currencies consistent. A calculated ratio describes your inputs; it does not establish the cause of a change.
