Cost per thousand impressions

Enter your values, then calculate.

CPM = spend ÷ impressions × 1,000

The cost of one thousand recorded impressions, not one thousand unique people.

THE SHORT ANSWER

CPM helps describe the price of recorded advertising exposure. Enter spend and impressions from the same report scope. The result concerns impressions, including repeat exposure, so it should not be described as the cost of reaching a thousand different people.

Work through it, step by step.

  1. Use one account currency and one complete period. Confirm that both inputs come from the same campaign or compatible aggregate.

  2. Enter ordinary currency units and the recorded impression count. The calculator scales the result to one thousand impressions.

  3. Compare similar delivery contexts and inspect relevant response measures separately. A low CPM can still buy exposure that does not suit the offer.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE · NOT CUSTOMER DATA

Make it concrete.

With 150 in spend and 30,000 impressions, CPM is 5 currency units. The number of distinct people reached is a separate measurement.

What to keep in mind.

Placement and format differences can make a direct cost comparison misleading. The calculator has no information about attention, audience quality or sales.

Your next useful step.

Use a placement or campaign report to explain a meaningful delivery-cost change. Keep reach and frequency outside any simple sum of overlapping rows.
