Onboard a marketing reporting client without sharing passwords

Establish resource access, reporting definitions and review boundaries before connecting a client’s marketing accounts.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Good reporting onboarding reduces ambiguity about identity, ownership and the numbers that matter. Ask the client to grant appropriate access through provider tools. Shared passwords and copied tokens make it harder to manage permissions and understand who can retrieve data.

Work through it, step by step.

  1. List the required properties and ad accounts with their IDs and owners. Confirm the business purpose for each connection and the relevant reporting currency.

  2. Agree the definitions of enquiries, purchases and other outcomes. Identify who owns measurement configuration and can resolve event-quality questions.

  3. Connect with authorised identities, verify a small read report and record the review cadence. Document how access will be revoked when the engagement ends.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE · NOT CUSTOMER DATA

Make it concrete.

Two client properties have nearly identical names but represent staging and production. Recording their IDs during onboarding prevents a polished report from describing the wrong environment.

What to keep in mind.

An agency’s access to one platform does not imply permission to retrieve every other connected source. Scope the work to the client’s actual authorisation.

Your next useful step.

Keep a compact account map and metric dictionary. In Liftaven, validate each provider connection before preparing the first recurring report or agent workflow.
